Immunomatics Launches Crowdfunding Campaign on Wefunder to Advance AI-Powered Transplant Matching Technology

NIH-funded startup founded by a transplant survivor opens investment to the public, with a mission to reduce organ and blood stem cell transplant rejection through precision donor-recipient compatibility scoring.

SAN MARCOS, CA (August 12, 2026) Immunomatics, Inc., a healthtech company developing AI software to improve transplant donor-recipient matching, today announced the launch of its crowdfunding campaign on Wefunder. The campaign invites the public to invest in the company's mission to reduce life-threatening complications for transplant patients and expand access to safer transplants.

Immunomatics is building machine learning software that estimates the risk of specific donor-recipient incompatibilities before transplantation. Unlike current clinical practice, which treats most HLA mismatches as equally risky, the company's platform analyzes the molecular details of each mismatch to produce a rejection-risk score designed to help transplant teams select safer donors and personalize immunosuppression post-transplant.

The company has received a $207,740 Phase I Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) award from the National Institutes of Health, providing both non-dilutive capital and independent scientific review of its approach. Immunomatics has also secured access to transplant outcome data through the Scientific Registry of Transplant Recipients (SRTR) and established a research collaboration with members of UC San Diego's Immunogenetics and Transplantation Laboratory.

The medical need is substantial. Roughly 20% of kidney transplants fail within five years, forcing patients back onto dialysis and transplant waitlists. In blood stem cell transplantation, graft-versus-host disease (GVHD) affects 15 to 35 percent of recipients and is a major cause of morbidity and mortality. Blood cancer relapse rates remain high, ranging from 25 to 50 percent depending on disease risk. Immunomatics aims to reduce these rates through optimal donor selection.

"I am alive today because I received a blood stem cell transplant to treat relapsed lymphoma," said Lidio Meireles, PhD, Founder and CEO of Immunomatics. "But when my doctors evaluated potential donors, none was a perfect match, and there was no reliable way to predict which donor would be safest. That experience is why I founded Immunomatics. We are building the tools that transplant teams need to make more precise, data-driven decisions — and this campaign gives everyone the opportunity to be part of that mission."

Proceeds from the campaign will fund further product development and proof of concept, data acquisition and strategic partnerships with transplant centers, targeted team expansion, and intellectual property protection. The company plans to advance its platform through clinical validation and pursue a Phase II NIH SBIR application.
